Ford recommends using Motorcraft® motor oil for Ford vehicles, including the Ford Escape. If you’re wondering what those numbers and letters mean, “W” stands for “winter,” and the numbers to the left and right sides refer to oil viscosity—in cold weather and at normal operating temperatures, respectively. Since oil tends to thicken at low temperatures and thin at high temperatures, look for low numbers to the left and high numbers to the right of the “W.” This signifies oil that stays thin enough to run when cold and thick enough to provide lubrication when hot.
If you’re unsure of the oil capacity of the Ford Escape and don’t know how much engine oil you need to purchase, check your owner’s manual for the exact details. The oil capacity of the Ford Escape varies based on which engine you have. That said, you can generally expect the Ford Escape oil capacity to range between 5.0 and 6.0 quarts (with filter), so purchasing about 6.0 quarts per oil change should be a safe bet.
When you shop for a Ford Escape oil filter, search for the part number “S3614.” This product number refers to an oil filter from Shell Technology Products (STP) designed and fitted for specific Ford vehicles, including the Escape.
